Tra le caratteristiche innovative che gli ingegneri Samsung hanno integrato nel nuovo Samsung Galaxy S7 e nella sua variante edge troviamo un sistema di raffreddamento di nuova generazione che sfrutta l’espansione e la contrazione di uno speciale gas per raffreddare la CPU, la GPU e tutte quelle componenti che necessitano di rimanere al fresco.
Attraverso un’intervista rilasciata dal capo ingegnere Kyungha Koo e da altri responsabili Samsung, abbiamo scoperto alcune particolarità interessanti. Ad esempio, come esso effettivamente funziona:
The most important part of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge’s cooling system is the thermal spreader (Heat Pipe). We adopted a spreader that is only 0.4mm in diameter, making it the thinnest in the market today. Unlike the conventional thermal spread sheet technology, the thermal spreader uses changes in the phases of water to radiate heat. It has a porous structure on the inside where water absorbs heat, turns into steam and moves through pipes. After losing heat, the steam liquefies, and turns back into water in the structure
In passato abbiamo avuto modo di vedere che di per sé, il Samsung Galaxy S7 non raggiunge mai delle temperature tanto elevate da rendere necessario un intervento massiccio del sistema di raffreddamento innovativo. Tuttavia, nel momento in cui si va a sfruttare il Gear VR, lo stress ed il carico di lavoro sulla CPU e sulla GPU è talmente alto da richiedere un buon raffreddamento (Il raffreddamento a liquido di Samsung Galaxy S7 è stato ideato per il Gear VR).
